YouthPower365 will host the inaugural PwrHrs Extended Learning Conference from November 7th-November 9th, 2018 at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. The conference will inform, inspire, and empower educators, out-of-school practitioners, funders, and policy-makers to move the needle toward a nation where quality out-of-school opportunities are available to all children in need.

In 2015, Bloomberg Philanthropies recognized PwrHrs, one of YouthPower365’s signature programs, as a replicable model, leading to a three year “Every Child, Every Day” campaign to offer PwrHrs to every child in Eagle County, CO. From the campaign’s launch date in 2015, the PwrHrs program has seen a 50% increase in enrollments and significant gains in literacy, physical activity, and social-emotional indicators.

The PwrHrs Extended Learning model will be used as a launching point to share PwrHrs program replication & extended learning implementation, highlight public-private partnerships, and encourage policy change at a local, state, and national level. Participant engagement, co-creation and shared expertise will be the guiding principles of this convening, and will be achieved through collaborative breakout sessions, renowned keynote speakers, and special opportunities to engage with PwrHrs programs and teachers with site visits. A key outcome of the PwrHrs Extended Learning Conference will include a conference white paper. All attendees will have a stake in this document, working throughout all conference sessions to create a collaborative curriculum for extended learning in rural communities.

Held over three days, the PwrHrs Extended Learning Conference will occur in the beautiful ski resort community of Beaver Creek, Colorado. The conference will focus on four strands:

  • Extended Learning Best Practices
YouthPower365 will share the PwrHrs Extended Learning model, and facilitate workshops with other practitioners and funders to share extended learning best practices.
  • Ideation, Family, & Community Engagement
Effective extended learning does not start in the classroom or stop when a student goes home; families, communities, schools and extended learning programs must work together to empower the child to achieve his or her full potential.
  • Public-Private Partnerships, Public Policy, & Advocacy
Conference attendees are invited to explore the future of out of school time with policy makers and private funders. Participants from every sector will learn how to become advocates for families and youth in their community.
  • Research, Outcomes & Impacts
Experts in the field of evaluation will explore program effectiveness and various tools and measures to prove that out-of-school programs are a key ingredient for success in a child’s life.
